Abstract

This thesis discusses The Coal Energy Policy and its role in shaping social and economic development in the Lahat Mining Areas in Prabu Menang Village, Merapi Timur District, Lahat Regency. Coal is one of the important energy commodities in Indonesia. The impact of mining helps a lot in infrastructure development, small businesses, providing assistance to the community in the mining area, so that the community gets a lot of benefits because of the mining around the village and there are also many other complaints about waste that enters the community's agriculture in the mining area so that many farmers fail to harvest from the effects of mining waste Other complaints are also felt by the community about coal mining dust that is also felt by the community about coal mining dust that is felt can cause respiratory tract infections, lung infections and others as well as dust that sticks to people's homes. and the density of vehicles that send coal via the highway so that traffic accidents and mining accidents often occur. Type of Research In this study, the researcher used field research with a qualitative approach. The researcher used a case study perspective to deeply analyze the implications of coal energy policies on social and economic progress in mining areas. Original data can be in the form of interview results, observations, Secondary Data scientific works such as theses, journals and documents from mine workers as supporting information to researchers.Social Impact Coal energy policies have brought significant social changes in mining communities. Social infrastructure such as education and health have increased in quality as a result of mining company investment. Economic Impact Coal energy policies have a significant impact on the economy of mining areas. Increased coal mining activities have driven local economic growth through job creation and increased income for local communities. However, excessive dependence on the coal sector also causes economic vulnerability, especially when there are fluctuations in coal prices in the global market.
