The Relationship of Parental Expectations and Adversity Quotient with Fear of Failure in Fresh Graduate Job Seekers

Abstract

Fear of failure is common emotion affecting individuals in education, career, and personal relationships. It can be influenced by various internal and external factors. This study aims to explore the relationship between parental expectations and Adversity Quotient with fear of failure among fresh graduate job seekers. The population in this study were fresh graduates of the faculty of ushuludin and religious studies of UIN Raden Intan Lampung who graduated in periods 1 and 2 in 2024, A total sampling technique yielded a sample of 89 participants. The research employed multiple regression analysis, utilizing measurement scales for Fear of Failure (27 items, α = 0.912), Parents' Expectations (24 items, α = 0.880), Adversity Quotient (20 items, α = 0.903) to assess their relationships with fear of failure. Data analysis using multiple regression with JASP 19.0 revealed significant findings regarding the relationship between parental expectations, Adversity Quotient, and fear of failure among fresh graduate job seekers. The analysis yielded an R value of 0.693 and an F value of 40.003, with a significance level of p < 0.001, indicating a combined effective contribution of 48.2%. Specifically, parental expectations were found to have positive and significant relationship with fear of failure, evidenced by correlation value of 0.502 (p < 0.001), contributing 26.20%. In contrast, the Adversity Quotient demonstrated negative and significant relationship with fear of failure (rx2-y = -0.459, p < 0.001), contributing 22.03%. there is a negative and significant relationship between Adversity Quotient and fear of failure in fresh graduate job seekers.
