Abstract
This study examines Imam al-Ash'ari's reasoning about Ru'yatullah (seeing God) discussed in the book Kitab al-Luma'. Imam al-Ash'ari's views are analyzed in comparison with other theological schools, such as Mu'tazilah, Jabariyah, and Shi'ah, which reject the possibility of seeing God. In contrast, al-Ash'ari believed that seeing God is possible in the afterlife, based on interpretations of Qur'anic verses such as Surah al-Qiyamah (75:22-23). This study explores the logical basis of al-Ash'ari's arguments, by discussing the contradictions in his theological system, especially in relation to his views on the nature of God and the possibility of seeing Him. The analysis is conducted using traditional logic to assess the validity of al-Ash'ari's premises and reasoning, with the aim of uncovering the inconsistencies in his system and their implications for the understanding of Islamic faith, especially among Indonesian Muslims. This research contributes to the discourse of Islamic theology by offering a critical study of Imam al-Ash'ari's intellectual legacy.
